Why Fund Transit? [1 of 2]
In most North American cities, including Edmonton, investments in public transit have
become disproportionate vis-à-vis the automobile.
Accommodating automobiles is very
expensive: large capital investments are required for road infrastructure and its
maintenance, huge amounts of pollution are dumped into the air through tailpipe
emissions and take their toll on health and health costs, motor vehicle accidents claim
lives and result in ever increasing insurance and policing costs.
As cities grow and roadways become clogged by the growing number of cars, this cycle is intensified.
Only by providing attractive and competitive alternatives to the private car can
we begin to attack this problem.

transportation to have, provided that nobody else has it."
