 Buick Today the average car costs its owner $6,600 per year in operating costs [including fuel, insurance and licensing] and $2,200 in maintenance according to the Alberta Motor Association. By contrast, an adult bus pass for one year costs only $648 ! For the price of operating one car, you can purchase a year's supply of adult bus passes for 13 people!

 Wind Power The Institution of Mechanical Engineers estimates that by 2050, over half the world's energy supply is expected to come from renewable sources. Electricity, as the most versatile energy form, will play an increasing role in meeting the world's energy requirements, including those in transportation.

 Pumping; but for how much longer? Alberta may have abundant oil, but declining reserves around the world will force prices steadily upwards. Petroleum-based private transportation is destined to become increasingly expensive. The time to invest in well designed public transit is NOW.
