Energy Facts [1 of 4]

The average automobile with seating for four people consumes about 0.25 kWh of energy per seat-kilometre in city driving. The average diesel bus with seating for 40 passengers consumes only 0.17 kWh per seat-kilometre. An electric trolleybus of similar capacity would use only 0.08 kWh per seat-kilometre. An Edmonton LRT car can seat 64 passengers and consumes, on average, about 3 kWh of electricity per km. Its energy consumption is the lowest per seat-kilometre at 0.05 kWh.

Public transit can be a clear winner all around when it comes to saving energy.
