What is transit funding like across Canada? [2 of 2]

Public support of transit is very high, but the various levels of government have not responded. Across Canada the following situation prevails:

Nation-wide, public transit is in need of at least $9.2 billion in capital infrastructure funding over the next five years

This will require that municipal governments recognize transit's important role and benefits and make firm commitments

About half of this cannot be realized without support from higher levels of government

Government needs to recognize the role transit can play in reducing pollution and health costs and step forward with suitable funding initiatives to ensure quality transit services like this can be maintained.
